Baltimore by Foot is showing off the city from the Gwynns Falls to Lauraville!

Spring is finally here and we are ready to take you on a tour. Our Monumental City tours kick off on Sunday, April 8 with our Jonestown and the Shot Tower tour—the same day that the Baltimore Farmers’ Market and Bazaar opens for the season! On Sunday mornings from April to November, you can take a walk to explore downtown, the Shot Tower, Mount Vernon Place and the Washington Monument. This year, we’ve added Federal Hill to the mix so be sure to check out the full schedule.

If you save Sunday for sleeping in, you can still sign up for our Saturday morning neighborhood walking tour series beginning on Saturday, April 21. Our annual Baltimore by Foot neighborhood walking tours show off four unique historic neighborhoods and one beautiful historic park:

You can sign up for just one tour or all five! We have tickets left for every tour but we expect to sell out. I hope you can get outside, enjoy the warmer weather, and come along for a tour soon.

What is public space? Ask the question on two unconventional tours of local landscapes

Take a walk around the picturesque Inner Harbor or past the concrete piers that carry the “Highway to Nowhere” over Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. You’ll see two very different public spaces. We can’t help but wonder how these public spaces came to be and how they affect us. You’ll be wondering too when you join public artist and Baltimore Heritage board member Graham Coreil-Allen for a people’s history tour of the Inner Harbor on March 18 and a walk across the Highway to Nowhere on April 1. Graham is known for his playful, participatory, and informative tours – you don’t want to miss them!

We are also excited to share our 2017 Baltimore by Foot tour series this spring – sign up for one or all five but please sign up soon. We expect all our spring walking tours to sell out!

Finally, if you’re looking for another way to explore Baltimore’s history this spring, join us for one of our 2017 bike tours. Our May and June rides include everything from tasty gelato to serene historic parks.

Meet Maryland horses and Mediterranean olives on our upcoming tours

This year marks a full century of Pompeian Olive Oil making olive oil in Baltimore, and we hope you can join us on our May 17 afternoon tour of their Pulaski Highway factory, including a peek at a 300-year-old olive press, the processing plant, and expert cooking tips along the way.

On the morning of May 17, you can join us in getting ready for Preakness with a morning tour of Pimlico Racetrack from its stables (including Preakness horses in training) to the Jockey’s locker room and famed clubhouse with its signature weather vane. And don’t forget about our tour next week of the Maryland House, our state’s contribution to the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, with our partner Preservation Maryland.

Spring also means our Monumental City Tours are up and running the first four Sunday mornings of every month from now until Thanksgiving. Bring a friend and join us on these one-hour jaunts to learn more about Baltimore: Jonestown and the Shot Tower, Landmarks and Lions Downtown, Mt. Vernon and the Washington Monument, and the Patterson Park Observatory.

Lastly, our annual Baltimore by Foot tour series starts off this weekend in Seton Hill. We are thrilled with the huge response these tours have generated—we only have spaces left on the Hunting Ridge and Harbor East to Jonestown tours, so make sure to sign up today to save your spot.

Springtime is here! Check out our Baltimore by Foot tours from Mount Washington to Pigtown

The first day of spring is here (even if it arrives with a bit of snow) and it’s time for our annual Baltimore by Foot neighborhood walking tours. This year, we’re thrilled to be touring five quite different neighborhoods with resident experts and local historians. Come on one tour or come on them all!

If you missed our Mount Vernon Love Stories Valentine’s walking tour in February, you’re in luck. A cold alert forced us to cancel but we rescheduled with Jamie Hunt to lead the tour again on Sunday, April 12 with a morning and afternoon option. Finally, don’t miss our upcoming tour of the 1889 Jenkins House on Maryland Avenue on March 26 for a look into this historic orphanage that has helped generations of Baltimoreans.
