Mount Vernon Place and the Washington Monument: A Monumental City Tour

From Revolutionary War hero John Eager Howard’s country estate “the” place to live for Baltimore's rich and famous in the mid-nineteenth century, join us for a tour of this grand historic neighborhood. The recent renovations to the two-hundred-year-old Washington Monument are the latest news, and if your legs are strong, we’ll climb to the top for a birds-eye view of central Baltimore! Space inside the monument is limited. Each tour is capped at 15 people and we'll meet at the south entrance of the monument.

Preservation Maryland invites you to a free lecture on LGBTQ history in Maryland and current efforts to identify and document historic places important to the LGBTQ community and American history. Susan Ferentinos, Ph.D., author of the award-winning “Interpreting LGBT History,” will join us in Baltimore from Bloomington, Indiana to give us a review of LGBTQ history and historic preservation efforts across the country and here in Maryland.

Join G. Krug and Son Ironworks on Saturday, December 1st from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM for its annual open house, including blacksmithing demonstrations and tours of the historic building and artifacts. Hand-made iron work items and other items also will be available for sale and light refreshments will be served.

If you haven’t been to Lexington market in a while, or even if you’re a regular there, we hope you’ll join us on a tour of this iconic Baltimore place to learn about recent changes and plans for the future of the market. On the tour, we will talk with the owners of Faidley’s, Berger’s, Konstant’s Candy, and other vendors that have been in their stalls for 100 years or more. We will also go down and explore the catacombs under the marketplace, getting a first-hand look at these mysterious spaces that are normally closed to the public.

Cottom (better known as Ric to friends and public radio listeners) began his sixteen-year run as host of WYPR’s Your Maryland where he shares colorful, human-interest glimpses into Maryland’s past. With the release of his book, Your Maryland: Little-Known Histories from the Shores of the Chesapeake to the Foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, Mr. Cottom’s rich and insightful stories have gained an even wider audience. Please join Join Baltimore Heritage and the Garrett Jacobs Mansion as Ric Cottom shares a few of his marvelous stories as well as some insight into how he creates them.

Join One House at a Time for their next auction on December 11, at 11:00 am. Only qualified bidders are eligible to participate. Apply to be a bidder by Tuesday, December 4 to participate in the auction.
