From a self-proclaimed impenetrable banking fortress to a hub of classical theatre, join us for a Behind the Scenes tour of 7 South Calvert Street, a former 1885 Mercantile Bank building and now the home of the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. When built, the building had massive stonework, a working moat, and a sniper’s seat inside, all to assure customers their valuables were safe inside the bank. Today, after an enormous renovation, the former bank is a 250-seat theater modeled after Shakespeare’s London theatre, the Globe.
