Overview
Designed by famed local theater architect John Jacob Zink, the Ambassador Theater is an iconic landmark on Liberty Heights Avenue since it opened in 1935. the Ambassador Theater is fondly remembered by thousands of Baltimore movie-goers who grew up around historic Gwynn Oak Junction. The movie house closed in 1968 but remained in use for over three decades as a dance hall, roller-skating rink, cosmetology school and church. Now vacant, the former Art Deco theater has suffered from neglect and a 2012 fire that damaged the interior.

Baltimore Heritage supports neighborhood leaders in Howard Park as they seek the preservation and reuse of this historic building as an asset for community revitalization in northwest Baltimore and to save a memorable gem in the history of Baltimore’s theaters.
