Baltimore Archdiocese 215th Anniversary Celebration: Free Tours at Landmark Churches

Saint Alphonsus ChurchBaltimore Heritage is pleased to support the Archdiocese of Baltimore as it celebrates its 225th anniversary with a pilgrimage faith walk of three historic Catholic sites in Central Baltimore. On the Sunday following the 4th of July from 12:00 pm to 4:30 pm, these landmark churches will open their doors for tours, exhibits, organ concerts, and even appearances by prominent figures in the church’s long history in the city. The afternoon will conclude with a mass by Archbishop Lori at the Baltimore Basilica followed by a reception on the Basilica lawn.

The three participating sites are:

The Baltimore Basilica: 200 years of architecture, 1 earthquake, and 2 fantastic restorations

After an extensive rehabilitation in 2007, the Baltimore Basilica rumbled during the earthquake that shook the city in 2011. Undaunted at a second major project in so short a time, the Basilica underwent extensive repairs to its masonry, plaster, and decorative work. Please join us for a tour of America’s first cathedral and walk through 200 years of architecture and the modern work to keep it all standing.
