SUMMARY:El Barrio: A Light City Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Tola’s Room and Baltimore Heritage for El Barrio Walking Tour\, a guided walk through Fells Point(once known as “El Barrio”) exploring the presence\, experiences\, and influence of Puerto Ricans in Baltimore from the 1800s to the present day. Through a humble\, community-centered lens\, we’ll share stories of Puerto Rican migration\, neighborhood life\, cultural traditions\, and some of the Puerto Ricans who helped shape Baltimore’s history and Latino communities. As part of Tola’s Room’s BmoreBoricuas Project\, the tour draws from archival research\, historical records\, newspapers\, and community stories to illuminate a history that has often gone overlooked. Puerto Ricans have been part of Baltimore’s story for generations. This is one way we honor\, remember\, and continue that narrative. \nThis is part of our Light City tour series–join us for a series of evening walking and boat tours to see our city in a new light. Participants are encouraged to take advantage of Baltimore’s evening offerings\, including local entertainment and restaurants.

SUMMARY:Fell's Point
DESCRIPTION:Join us to see how Fell’s Point developed in the 1730s to become one of Baltimore’s premier waterfront communities. Great wealth through trade was created here for the likes of Johns Hopkins\, George Peabody\, and William Walters. These shores were the first place over a million immigrants started their American dream\, yet also where enslaved people either arrived in bondage or were shipped south in chains. As we walk\, we’ll point out historic homes and industrial heritage\, like the country’s first Black-owned shipyard\, and share some of the rich stories that this 300-year-old waterfront neighborhood has to offer.

SUMMARY:Patterson Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us to walk through Patterson Park and through time starting back when it was officially created in 1827. During the War of 1812\, the park saw action defending Baltimore. And during the Civil War\, troops here made sure Maryland didn’t secede from the Union. The park has been used for strolling\, fishing\, hockey\, swimming\, festivals and even as a beef market. Over its 198-year history\, it has grown from 6 acres to 137 acres\, partially thanks to the famous Olmsted Firm. Discover the history of Patterson Park\, which is in many ways the story of Baltimore itself\, and see how it really is “the best backyard in Baltimore.”

SUMMARY:The Grand Baltimore
DESCRIPTION:The Freemasons dedicated their first Grand Lodge in 1822\, which was located on St. Paul Street and Lexington Avenue. During the Civil War the Grand Lodge was used as a Federal Courthouse and was later acquired as a permanent extension of the courthouse. Needing a new building for their lodge\, the Freemasons began construction on what would become their new headquarters in 1866. Join us to learn more about the Freemasons and see the beautifully restored building!
