May 30, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
On Saturday, May 30, historian Ted Furey will talk about the man who designed Corpus Christi Church, the celebrate Irish architect, Patrick Charles Keely. By the early 1880s, Keely had designed numerous churches and cathedrals around the United States. After Louisa Carrell Jenkins made the gift to found the church, her children called upon Keelty to design the splendid edifice that still stands on Mount Royal Avenue today. Patrick Keely’s design incorporated ecclesiastical treasures from the John Hardman Studio of England and established the Jenkins Memorial Church as one of the finest Catholic churches in the United States.
Speaker Ted Furey, president of the Patrick Keely Society, grew up attending one of Keely’s parish churches: the brownstone St. Patrick’s, in Enfield, Connecticut built in 1888. The Patrick Keely Society is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the legacy of architect Patrick Keely.
