Baltimore Heritage

Just as much as our harbor and our great neighborhoods, Baltimore’s longstanding businesses are a central part of what makes our city unique. The list of the city’s legacy business is long, and we have picked four to highlight on this bike tour. We’ll cycle to each place and stop to meet with the current owners, and end with lunch in Patterson Park. Our first stop will be at Budeke’s Paints and Decorating on Broadway. Founded in 1868 by George Budeke, this Fell’s Point paint shop is in its 149th year of helping people protect and color their their houses and shops. Our next stop will be Meyer Seed on Caroline Street, founded in 1910 and still providing seeds to gardeners and farmers in Baltimore and across the country. Next we’ll stop at Tochterman’s Fishing Tackle on Eastern Avenue, which has been supplying fishing supplies since its founding in 1916. We’ll end the tour at noon in Patterson Park with lunch provided by DiPasquales on Gough Street in East Baltimore, which has been importing and providing Italian foods since 1914. The tour amounts to four businesses each over 100 years old and one wonderful lunch! We will start from and return to the Patterson Park Pagoda (27 South Patterson Park Ave.). The lunch, included in the ticket price, will include various meat and vegetarian dishes from DiPasquale’s Italian market and deli.
