Spend a morning walking with Robert K. Headley, theater historian and author of numerous articles and books about historic theaters in Baltimore, exploring our rich history with the performing arts. The Baltimore streetscape is full of theater buildings, many of which we walk by every day without knowing they were once full of people enjoying vaudeville, burlesque or movies. Some have been repurposed for other uses, some sit abandoned, and one has found a second life as, of all things, a theater. From seeing past the neon of “The Block” to the string of historic movie and live performance venues, to uncovering Baltimore’s less-known cinema history, downtown Baltimore’s theatrical legacy will open up and change the way look at buildings and entire blocks of central Baltimore. The tour will involve two miles of flat walking at an easy pace with stops to talk about theaters.
